I’ve been blessed to give birth to three amazing children. After each birth I marveled at the life that was before me and wondered if God knew what he was doing entrusting my husband and me to raise these children. After all, we didn’t know what the heck we were doing.
One of my favorite authors, Erma Bombeck spoke so eloquently about moms when she said, “Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I’d have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.”
Moms assist God in co-creating miracles in their children’s lives each and every day. The love we pour into them is miraculous. The miracles start at the moment of conception and grows with each passing year. It’s an awesome, exhausting and overwhelming responsibility at times. It’s emotional, gut wrenching and downright over the moon joyful at others. Motherhood contains the bittersweet demands of love.
We often wonder, “Am I doing this right?” “How can I ever balance all the demands I’m juggling?” “Am I worthy?” “Why is this so much bigger than I imagined?” There is no definitive rule book although there is a wonderful resource, ‘The Momager Guide; Empowering Moms to Live a Loving Legacy’ that yours truly published.
My eldest son turns 21 the day after Mother’s Day and here’s what I know to be true. God chose me to be my kids mom. God chose you to be yours. That’s right, you. Wonderfully made, glorious, miraculous, you. He has a purposeful journey planned for you and each of your family members walking together on this path called life. He chose us to partner with Him as we hold onto our children tightly at times and heart breakingly let go of them at others.
Don’t be afraid. Stay on the path of falling in love with life, your calling and your family. You don’t have to know it all, you just need to keep asking, “What’s the next right and loving thing to do?”
Pray for wisdom, your husband and your children. Your prayers are extra special. Stay so close to Him and KNOW he has you all in the palm of his hands. After all, God’s your partner here. Things will work out just fine. Better than fine really.
To all the moms who are making miracles every day, I salute you. Your love is magical.
